The Stories Of The Bible by Durand Loy

Introducing Jesus

The Stories Of The Bible: An Inspiring Christian Storybook For Kids by Durand Loy is a beautiful book or children aged four years and older. It is perfect to read to small children or for early readers to access themselves.

This book introduces children to key Bible stories from both the Old and New Testament. Each Bible story is spread over a double page with the illustration on one page and the title, Bible reference and paraphrased story on the other. The story is written in a way that children can understand. Stories include Adam & Eve, Moses, Joseph, Daniel, Jesus and key events in His life, and finally Ephesians where we are told to put on the armour of God. As children grow older, we can read the actual Bible passageway to them.

Each Bible story is beautifully illustrated by Ayan Mansoori. The pages are colourful and appeal to young children. The pictures can be used as discussion points with our children.

A Room Full Of Chocolate by Jane Elson

Family, Love & A Pot-Bellied Pig

A Room Full Of Chocolate by Jane Elson is a powerful, contemporary novel that I just could not put down. It is perfect for ages ten years and over.

We see the action through the eyes of ten year old Grace. It is written in the first person and we have glimpses into her special blue book.

We learn about family, love and care. Family are not just blood related but those who love us along the way – including pot-bellied pigs!

We see that even estranged family matters as Grace is sent from London to Yorkshire to live with a grumpy grandad, whom she has never met. Beneath the gruff exterior beats a heart of gold who has to learn to love again.

There is the difficult topic of breast cancer. We see how Grace is shielded but she would rather know the truth. She deeply loves her Mum but her frustration and upset can erupt into words of anger, that she later regrets.

The Magic Faraway Tree: A New Adventure by Jacqueline Wilson

Enchanting

The Magic Faraway Tree: A New Adventure by Jacqueline Wilson is positively delightful. It is perfect for children ages eight years and over.

This book is also an absolute delight for adults who grew up reading The Faraway Tree novels by Enid Blyton. They were my favourites and I still have my copies now.

Jacqueline Wilson has kept the magic alive. She writes in a style very reminiscent of the originals. All the familiar characters are there – Moonface, Silky, Dame Washalot etc. This book transported me back through the years to my childhood. Fifty years on, and I still want to believe that somewhere out there, there is the Faraway Tree! This book is enchanting and I loved it.
