I Am Zion by John Eckhardt

Shout To The North And The South

I Am Zion by John Eckhardt is a powerful book packed full of godly advice and scripture to help us draw closer to God.

Zion is the place where God chooses to dwell. We want to be Zion people who have God dwelling in them. John Eckhardt tells us that Zion people have wisdom, understanding and revelation.

“We must develop a heart that desires what God desires.” Our goal is not to be like other people, our goal is to be like Jesus. We want to have a heart that beats in tune with His. We are citizens of heaven, called to walk in this world but not to be of the world. We must live with our eyes and hearts fixed on Jesus.

John Eckhardt explains that Babylon was seen as captivity whereas Zion was seen as freedom, giving sacrificially and with worship and praise in their hearts.

The book shows what a Zion church looks like. It is not a building. It is a heart that passionately pursues God through prayer, worship, giving and glory. A Zion church is a church that desires to go deeper, is multi-generational and a source of life, being led by the Spirit.

Redeeming Advent by Lucy Rycroft

Pure Gold

Redeeming Advent by Lucy Rycroft is the perfect book to accompany you his December as we look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus.

The book is split into four sections, each with six chapters. At the end of each chapter are questions to ponder and a prayer. All are designed to draw us closer to, and keep focused on Jesus. “Don’t lose Jesus in the haze of Christmas consumerism.”

Lucy Rycroft writes in a very personable way. It feels more like advice from a dear friend. She uses personal anecdotes and we get a glimpse into her life.

One reading that really impacted me was about our visible faith. Can my faith be seen physically and in my conversations and actions? Wow! We are not called to ram our faith down anyone’s throat but we are called to show the love of Jesus in action – ‘what you did for the least, you did for Me.’ If we were on trial for our faith, is there enough evidence to convict us?

A Rumor Of Roses by Sally Klein O’Connor

The Power Of Love

A Rumor Of Roses by Sally Klein O’Connor is a powerful book about God’s love that heals the hurt and the power of forgiveness.

Sally Klein O’Connor is a Jewish lady who loves Jesus. She wants to help heal the nations that are torn apart. She undertakes “a tour of roses” in places of conflict – the concentration camps of Europe, Ireland on Orange Day and Palestine. She gives out roses in the name of God’s love.

The author’s first visit to the concentration camps was in 2007. She wondered “How can You [God] be in this place? I Am. I Was. And I will be.” God is always to be found with us in the dark places of life, shining His light into our hearts. For many, there is no distinction between Germans and Nazis. Sally Klein O’Connor seeks to heal this thought process. She “may not have the answers but desires healing.”

The memorial at Dachau reads “Never Again” but still wars and genocide happens. The Nazis were seen as monsters, doing despicable things. The author urges us to look at life “through the lens of God’s mercy.” She comments “No human being was ever created to be a monster… God’s love… can turn monsters back into men.”
