Turning Tide by Melody Carlson

Endings And Beginnings

Turning Tide by Melody Carlson is a marvellous Christian historical novel and part of the Legacy Of Sunset Cove series. It can be read as a stand-alone but I would recommend reading the previous novels first.

The action is set in 1917 as America is entering World War I. I enjoyed catching up with familiar faces. Some characters are already at the Front, others are draft dodgers and others are excluded from serving but wish this were not the case. “It’s just hard to stand by and watch.”

Women on the home front do what they can to support the war effort including selling liberty bonds.

The men suffer at the Front. The women suffer on the home front as they worry about their men. They need to entrust their worries to God. “It’s better to pray than to worry.” The reader is reminded that we are to worry about nothing and to pray about everything, only by trusting God will receive a supernatural peace in spite of circumstances.

Broken Promises by Melody Carlson

Not Alone

Broken Promises by Melody Carlson is a contemporary Christian novel for young girls aged nine years and above. It is the third book in the Being Zoey series.

In this series Melody Carlson tackles issues that are relevant in today’s society. In Broken Promises she presents the dynamics of female friendships. We have all been to school and suffered at the hands of other’s hate campaigns, Melody Carlson has the power in her words to send you flying back through the years, remembering just how you felt as the victim of others. Melody Carlson presents a realistic portrayal of the hurt and distress caused.

There is a wonderful two-girl friendship where the girls encourage, support and look out for each other.

The reader sees the pull of the secular to tempt us away from church. The reality is that the secular is not as good as it appears, (isn’t that just like sin, all that glitters is not gold?) whereas church is amazing, fun and safe.

Christmas In Winter Hill by Melody Carlson is a delightful Christmas book that will leave you smiling. Every year Melody Carlson releases a Christmas book and I look forward to reading it, and this year’s offering does not disappoint.

Christmas is a time for love and family but if you have never had one, it can be hard. One may feel isolated and lonely as it looks like the whole world is having fun.

Winter Hill is a place of community. A warm welcome awaits as strangers are taken under its wings. New beginnings are made easier with a greeting from smiling faces.

Surf Smugglers by Melody Carlson

Open Hearts And Homes

Surf Smugglers by Melody Carlson is a fantastic historical romance and the third book in the Legacy Of Sunset Cove series but can be read as a stand-alone.

I loved returning to familiar faces. The year is 1917 and the war that was far away overseas has finally caught up with the American people as the draft is introduced. It is a difficult time waving young men off to war. The patriotic American spirit is alive for all to see.

There is a strong female camaraderie running throughout the novel. There are huge hearts who see the plight of others. Brave, forward thinking modern women are not afraid to rock the status quo.

Family is important. “Family… some we are born with and some we gather along the way.” What a beautiful image.
