A Tidbit Of Trust by Elizabeth Maddrey

Learning To Trust Again

A Tidbit Of Trust by Elizabeth Maddrey is the most delightful contemporary Christian romance. It is the fifth book in the Taste Of Romance series but can be read as a stand-alone.

As with all Elizabeth Maddrey’s books, I adored it. Elizabeth Maddrey always writes novels with Christian values at the core and a great storyline.

As the title suggests, a key theme was trust – trust in God, trusting others and trusting ourselves. Knowing our past behaviour means we may have a hard time trusting ourselves but if we focus on God and ask Him for help, we can put the past where it belongs – in the past.

This theme links to forgiveness. “You need to forgive yourself.” We know that God forgives us, so why do we find it so hard to forgive ourselves? In god we are a new creation.

Straight Flies The Arrow by Sydney Betts

Changed Lives

Straight Flies The Arrow by Sydney Betts is an epic historical Christian Native American tale and a marvellous end to the trio of books. I really enjoyed it.

The reader has a real treat as they experience life in the 1840’s in Native American villages. Here, life is simple, no worldly worries. There is a combining of the traditional way with the new way of I-Am-Creator, as more and more Native Americans hear and grasp His words. “The new spirit produced changes in me.” The reader is reminded that in Jesus, we are all new creations.

As Christians, we have the hope of heaven. “I look forward to heaven, where we will never need to part with a loved one again.” Our separation is not forever.

True Death by Dale E Lehman

Three Musketeers

True Death by Dale E Lehman is a marvellous contemporary murder thriller. It is the second book in the Howard County Mystery series but could be read as a stand-alone. I would, however, recommend reading book one, The Fibonacci Murders, first as this story follows straight on from that, being set just a few weeks later.

The plotline was intricately constructed and grabbed my attention from the start. I immediately became engrossed in the action and remained glued to the end. The story alternated between present day and the past, which set the scene for the action to come.

In True Death the reader hears the back story of the main characters. They are more than just detectives, they are ‘real’ people who have loved and lost. The three detectives reminded me of the three musketeers, with the police chief as D’Artagnan. Their loyalty to each other and their fight for justice was admirable.

A Conspiracy Of Breath by LaTayne C Scott

By Faith

A Conspiracy Of Breath by LaTayne C Scott is a Christian historical novel. It is set in the first century and explores life from the point of view of Priscilla. Whilst this is a work of fiction, Priscilla is a real character from the Bible. LaTayne Scott has imagined life from a Christian woman’s viewpoint and written the novel in the first person so the reader really gets the flavour of life.

Life was dangerous for Christians. It was a time of persecution. Women were seen as second class citizens so to be a Christian woman who was not afraid to speak out, was particularly dangerous.

LaTayne Scott has really bought Biblical happenings to life in her novel. Whilst it is all her imagination, the reader ‘feels’ familiar with the setting and the happenings. Biblical passages exist alongside the main narrative.
